Breast Augmentation

Breast AugmentationBreast enhancement, or breast enlargement, clinically known as augmentation mammaplasty, is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic surgeries. The procedure increases breast size with the use of breast implants. Breast augmentation can help women who are dissatisfied with the current size of their breasts feel more confident by creating the larger, shapelier look they desire. Breast augmentation can also restore the loss of volume that results from aging, pregnancy or significant weight loss.

Breast augmentation surgery typically lasts one to two hours under general anesthesia, during which, Dr. Shock uses an inframammary incision to precisely position the implants. During your consultation, she will help you choose the most appropriate implant type and size based on your unique goals, body and lifestyle. Each breast augmentation procedure is unique and varies according to the patient.  Dr. Leslie Shock will work closely with you to develop a personalized plan that will select the optimal size and shape of implants to augment the contours of your body. Your overall health and breast health will be reviewed prior to the surgery as well. For women over 35 or ones with a family history of breast ovarian cancer, this includes a baseline screening mammogram.

As one of the few female plastic surgery providers in the area, Leslie Shock, MD has a distinct ability to genuinely understand the needs and goals of her female patients, helping them obtain the shapely, feminine physique they desire.

FAQ

Will I Have Scars After Breast Augmentation?
As with any surgical procedure, there will be scarring. However, Dr. Shock carefully conducts each surgery, including breast augmentation surgery to ensure that scarring is as minimal and discreet as possible. One of the major advantages of placing incisions in the inframammary fold is that any scarring typically blends in with the natural crease under the breast. Immediately following surgery, scars may be raised and discolored; however, they typically flatten and fade over the course of the next six months to a year. In addition, Dr. Shock uses several techniques to further achieve the goal of minimal scarring.

If you are dissatisfied with the appearance of your scars for any reason, Dr. Shock offers scar revision techniques and skin care products that may be able to help.
